In the 1980s growing up in England I can remember the stories and images of children living in orphanages in Romania and being horrified by what I saw. Many of these children suffered tremendous psychological and physical abuse the affects of which stayed with them for a lifetime. It is remarkable that these adult children were able to build any semblance of a ‘normal’ life. The children of these orphanages have young children of their own now but they are still living in marginalized communities with a lack of opportunities afford to peers who grew up with non-orphaned parents. This BBC article shows exactly what many of these children endured

Venture to Impact (VsI) has been sending volunteers each year to help these children learn basic computer skills, life skills and the confidence to reach their potential. I am going to be a part of this effort next July working with the children and sharing my own story of how I built my life here in the US which pales in comparison to their struggles but I hope will help them believe in their capabilities no matter their background. Thank you for your kind support to help make a difference in the lives of these children.

V2I’s mission is to transform individuals, families, and communities out of poverty and into lasting well-being, and I am looking forward to taking part in this with them.
