In the 1980s growing up in England I can remember the stories and images of children living in orphanages in Romania and being horrified by what I saw. Many of these children suffered tremendous psychological and physical abuse the effects of which stayed with them for a lifetime. It is remarkable that these adult children were able to build any semblance of a ‘normal’ life. The children of these orphanages have young children of their own now but they are still living in marginalized communities with a lack of opportunities afforded to peers who grew up with non-orphaned parents. This BBC article shows exactly what many of these children endured

Venture 2 Impact (V2I) has been sending volunteers each year to help these children learn basic computer skills, life skills and the confidence to reach their potential. I am going to be a part of this effort next July working with the children and sharing my own story of how I built my life here in the US which pales in comparison to their struggles but I hope will help them believe in their capabilities no matter their background. Thank you for your kind support to help make a difference in the lives of these children.

V2I’s mission is to transform individuals, families, and communities out of poverty and into lasting well-being, and I am looking forward to taking part in this with them.
