Currently, I am in my fourth year as a Psychology student at Saint Mary’s University, in Halifax, NS. My passion for football took me to the close-knit community at SMU where I played as a husky on the Varsity Football team for 3 years before leaving to pursue another path. After leaving what was once the main pillar of my life, it took some time to find my feet. The opportunity to travel to Romania to carry out the mission of Venture 2 Impact couldn’t have come at a better time. It was exactly what I needed. The impact the youth had on myself and my team members was greater than any of us could have foreseen. These kids were filled with love. They were gracious, funny, and friendly in way that within just a couple of days you would swear that was your little brother or sister beside you (In the loving, caring way, guys). To help these youth see the light within themselves is the most worthy mission I can dedicate myself to. This is because it opens up the opportunity for them to embrace their limitless potential and create their lives despite adverse circumstances.
This year, similar to the last, I will be helping a group of young adults who grew up in institutional orphanages get the skills they need to find better paying jobs. I will do this by helping build upon the English and computer skills lessons that we taught last year. Also, I will help lead weekend excursions to encourage building practical skills and soft skills for the young adults. One big benefit from last year’s trip was a heightened sense of community among the young adults, so I look forward to building upon this through team building activities, playing games, and soft skills training this summer.
With your help we can give these young adults opportunities to thrive! Support my volunteer trip. Be a part of creating lasting impact!
