Last spring I was invited to join Venture 2 Impact in Romania over the summer and I was asked to help write the English curriculum. Although I didn’t know much about the project at the time, I soon learned about their partner, Hope and Homes for Children, whose mission is to de-institutionalize orphanages. They work with families, trying to keep children in their homes, and giving support to children as they age out of the system. Our project’s goal was to give skills – specifically English speaking skills and computer skills – to young adults who had aged out of the orphanage system in order to help them get better jobs. I really resonated with the project goals so I decided to join the program help create the English portion of the curriculum. When we arrived in Romania, it was a joy to see the work I’d put into the classes coming to life. The classes gave the young adults and volunteers a place to bond and have fun while they learned. We saw the young adults grow so much in confidence after just one week!

When I found out Venture 2 Impact would be returning to Romania, I jumped at the opportunity to be involved. Our goal for this year is again to improve the English conversation skills and computer skills for the Romanian young adults, but we will also focus on soft skills and helping create relationships among the young adults and the staff. Before leaving, I will again be involved in writing the curriculum for the English classes. I am excited to go back and spend more time with the young adults I’ve already built relationships with.

In order to go, I need to raise $4995. Would you consider partnering with me, and giving $200, $500, or even $1000 to help me meet my goal? Gifts of any size are welcome. Your gift would be used to cover trip costs, including housing and airfare. Join me in creating a lasting impact on children and young adults in Romania!
